My first media memory?
Until I started school I lived in remote western NSW. Our township had not yet been added to the electricity grid. The only media were battery powered radio sets, newspapers and magazines.
Our annual holidays were spent visiting relatives in Newcastle where they had electricity and flushing toilets. My cousins had TV. I watched the Mickey Mouse Club with them. I think this is my first significant media memory.
What I really enjoy about working in media?
I like the two-sidedness of media things; that on the one hand a particular solution completely satisfies some criteria, but fails on others. I enjoy weighing up the pros and cons. I like that we have the time to consider, to debate options, and to challenge. I like the sense of anticipation when I know I’m about to see some new creative work, and I love that I’m still in awe of the many genuinely creative people I regularly encounter through work.
What I like best about working in Manly?
Working in Manly for me is working close to home. When my kids were growing up I was able to have a swim with them at lunch time in the school holidays. It’s a quiet location so our people can focus without distraction, but rejuvenate by taking a break in the seaside air. More pragmatically, it’s an environment that seems to contribute to staff stability.

My first media memory?
Sadly some of my earliest advertising memories revolved around tobacco and sport. I wasn’t the first impressionable kid that thought Benson & Hedges was an outstanding brand given its contribution to the welfare of cricket. Thankfully today those early thoughts are somewhat offset by the work we do with organisations like Quit Victoria who are world leaders in tobacco cessation.
What I really enjoy about working in media?
The diversity. There is great satisfaction in helping people succeed whether it is in business or in social programs such as anti-tobacco, obesity, melanoma or heart disease. Different metrics, whether it be a desire for a very small but gradual shift in prevalence or a large dominant movement in YOY growth. The media strategy can be hugely influential and at the same time recognising that good businesses and programs need all components of the marketing mix to be successful.
What I like best about working in Manly?
Just a walk down to Manly on a nice day can help fast track a media idea. Mostly it’s a swim or a run and there is no doubt that it has to be one of the great places to work.

My first media memory?
I remember the time I first heard Merrick and Rosso doing the Drive show for Triple J. Growing up in a regional media market, their indifference to the conventions of hosting radio was a revelation. Unlike them, I haven’t been able to cope with commercial radio since.
What I really enjoy about working in media?
Media is evolving at a much faster rate than advertising and I enjoy the challenge in reconciling the two. I’m particularly interested in the ways we can harness growing volumes of data to help our clients make better advertising and business decisions, while maintaining the benefit of human understanding and interpretation.
What I like best about working in Manly?
I enjoy being able to break up the day with a quick swim at the beach or a run up and around North Head. Having the city as an outline on the horizon can do wonders for perspective.

My first media memory?
We moved to Australia from the UK when I was quite young and I distinctly remember being mesmerised by the huge neon lit Coke sign in Kings Cross. It was so different from anything I had experienced as a child in London and represented much of what Sydney became to me – larger than life, bright and exciting!
What I really enjoy about working in media?
It’s so exciting to see digital driving change across the media landscape. Working in a rapidly evolving field means that every day I am challenged, and learn something new. This is further enhanced by working in a smaller environment, as it allows access and exposure to all facets of the media landscape that wold not be feasible in a large agency. Best yet, I get to work with amazingly talented and passionate colleagues and clients, every day.
What I like best about working in Manly?
Being outside of the city is a real plus for me. I’m a Manly local through and through, and love that I now work in Manly as well. It’s great being able to wander down the Corso at lunchtime, or have a quick swim at the beach. It also promotes a better work life balance for me.

My first media memory?
Growing up in India during the Cable TV boom, my first media memory is of all the TV ads of different brands from big consumer goods companies like Cadbury and Nestle. Every ad seemed to have a catchy jingle which stuck in your head. Even all these years later, I still know the words to most of the jingles and feel nostalgic when I think of them.
What I really enjoy about working in media?
Working with brands from several diverse industries is a daily part of media and this is what appeals to me the most. Each project is a challenge that has to be handled in a different way to provide strategic recommendations to a client, which is very exciting. I really enjoy the digital aspect which provides you with a large amount of data and several different metrics to exactly analyse the performance of a marketing campaign, which has to then be used effectively to optimise and meet the campaign objectives.
What I like best about working in Manly?
The quiet, relaxing atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of the city makes Manly a great place to work. Having grown up in a beachside town myself, the proximity to the beach here, makes me feel right at home too.

My first media memory?
When I was young, my friends and I were cast to act in a TV spot promoting confectionary. I got to experience media from a completely different point of view, I was the one in front on the camera, and it was the best fun! Unluckily, perhaps due to my poor acting skills, the product didn’t live for long and the spot disappeared from TV after just two weeks, and with it my acting career.
What I really enjoy about working in media?
I’ve always been fascinated by copious amounts of data and the possibility of working across different disciplines. Media offers both in spades. As an actuary with statistical background, I am delighted to be working with digital media, as now I'm able to blend information from completely different streams and provide deep data-driven actionable insights.
What I like best about working in Manly?
As I always say, Manly is paradise. I travelled more than 13,000 km to find a peaceful yet energetic place where unique ideas and perspective meet. I am in love with the opportunity to work and live surrounded by nature and harmony.

My first media memory?
Growing up in regional NSW meant that I was not exposed to as much media and advertising as some kids, however having a father who was a TV Technician at the time, there was a TV in almost every room of the house. As much as I am somewhat embarrassed to admit, but I have this clear memory of the McDonald’s ads on TV promoting the new McHappy Meal toy campaign. Despite the closest McDonald’s restaurant being 30 minutes away, I remember somehow managing to collect all 24 Snoopy toys which I still have hidden away somewhere to this day…
What I really enjoy about working in media?
Being the tech-savvy millennial that I am, I have experienced the growth in digital media first hand over the years from a consumer point of view and always knew that with the knowledge and technology that we have today, digital will be the future. Since working in media, it is seeing this rapid growth from a whole other perspective and learning the endless opportunities and possibilities across digital platforms that I enjoy most. The idea that there is no single strategy for every client, and the challenge that this presents is where I find myself most focused towards as I find it tends to require both a little creativity and strategic thinking all in one, bringing together what I believe to be two of my key strengths in the field.
What I like best about working in Manly?
I love it. Living close to the beach has always been a dream of mine since I was young, however working practically opposite the beach was something I would have never thought I would be lucky enough to experience. With a view of the city skyline, I begin to consider myself beyond lucky to be able to go for a walk by the water on my break and regain perspective and focus without having to face the rush of the city. This town is a little wonder in itself, being amongst it you instantly adjust to the energy and relaxed vibe it is well known for.

My first media memory?
Growing up in America, there is no shortage of media on every corner. I think my first “wow” moment was while I was in New York City, Times Square in 2005(ish) on a school trip and Calvin Klein’s famous underwear-clad billboard of model Travis Fimmel stopped me and my year 11 classmates in our tracks! I was 17 and instantly realized the impact of good media placements and even better creative.
What I really enjoy about working in media?
I love the fact that tomorrow media may be something totally different from what it is today. Media turned digital, got social, and has become the hip necessity of every avenue of business. It feels like a new frontier – no two days are the same and that makes it exciting. We are an active part of the future and my job allows me to utilise these discoveries to improve campaigns. I love to work with so many diverse clients and people who are passionate about their cause.
What I like best about working in Manly?
I think the better question is what’s not to love? A morning surf before work, lunchtime swims in the harbour, friendly neighbors, great café’s, and only a short ferry ride to the city. It’s as tough as it sounds.

My first media memory?
My first media memory is a TV show I used to watch back in Argentina about the best ads around the world. I was fascinated by their creativity and I used to make my whole family watch it every Saturday night.
What I really enjoy about working in media?
I enjoy contributing to the awareness of valuable messages. I’m passionate about seeing every campaign’s result as a potentially helpful change or an improvement on people’s life.
What I like best about working in Manly?
Everything! The relaxed atmosphere and beach environment of Manly can be easily found in the office, you can feel it on anyone. The possibility of being in Manly every day, reminds me the reason why I moved to Sydney from the other side of the world.
